Percussion
The Santa Monica High School Percussionists enjoy a wide variety of educaitonal experiences to train and develop the percussive arts.
All percussionists should be a part of the marching band - that is where they will get the most playing time, and the most individualized attention from percussion specialists.
All percussionists must enroll in one of the concert bands, where they will be a part of an ensemble focussing on both serious and popular music. A few select students will be chosen, by audition and recommendation of the band director, to participate in the orchestra program and in the jazz ensemble. Only the most serious and dedicated students should apply.
During the second semester, percussionists will continue to have an opporunity to play with percussion ensembles - giving them additional opportunites to study music specifically written for the contemporary percussion performance.
